How To Style Mothers of the Bride & Groom
The mother of the bride & mother of the groom are two very special people at all weddings. It’s a day that is not only extraordinary for the bride and groom but a day when they celebrate the momentous occasion with their parents.
Listen to your own instinct, it knows the colours you truly love and that suit your complexion. If you’re unsure of a colour palette then Creams, Ivory, Champagne and Taupe are very accessible for Mother of the Bride. These shades are timeless and elegant and the ultimate element of sophistication to compliment your daughter or daughter in law’s dress.
We are delighted to share our photo shoot with some amazing outfits from one of Ireland’s leading Mother of the Bride boutiques- Isobel’s in Adare. Kay & her very experienced team will ensure you look and feel amazing for this very special occasion! Some of the fantastic designers you will find in Isobel’s– Heidi Higgins, Cabotine, DVF and Gabriela by Sanchez.
The first outfit is a Cadbury purple, a stunning option by Gabreila by Sanchez. This Colour is stunning on olive complexions, as it really enhances the cool skin tones the same can be said with this colour and grey hair. The coat is knee length is plain, collarless, and simply beautiful on the lady with the larger bust, the linear flowing lines can create a fabulous slim silhouette. The saucer hat is simply divine, complimenting the simplicity of the dress and coat.
This ivory dress with crop jacket is one of my favorite styles from today, reminiscent of the Dior Silhouette; statement super narrow waistband with a very tailored bodice and the most exquisite beautiful full skirt. The Gabriela by Sanchez dress is made in an ivory brocade fabric with delicate beading on the crop top edge. The crop top (Jacket) is a fantastic and classic option over the dress. The cowl neck seen here is very flattering neckline available to any mother of the bride. This timeless combo never dates and with the addition of a fur you can transition the outfit into a Winter Option.
In this picture our mother of the bride wears a Fely Campo ivory brocade fabric again but this time the silhouette is shapely and classic. The jacket is peplum style; this is a beautiful option to gently pull in the waist without adding volume, yet showcasing the exquisite fabric. The neckline is a low round neckline, with no lapels, which work very well if you have a larger bust like our model. The belt is all hand embroidered beading with a pearl fastening to the front, great to catch the eye to the centre of the body thus narrowing the frame, wonderful for apple pear and ladies with a larger bust.
The hat is the true Showpiece here, just beautiful: an oversize saucer hat with a gold trim and large floral details on the cap is a magnificent talking piece.
If citrus is your colour of choice then this peach and oyster pink combination will leave you speechless. The saucer hat catches the eye initially with peach twirls and decoration on a cream base. We are again looking at the stunning Dior Silhouette here, as the Mother of the Bride wears a Fely Campo peach frock with oyster pink crop jacket with that divine beading on the edge. Simply demonstrates where an amazing design can harmonise in colour blocking.
If you desire a more fashion forward option then this Heidi Higgins is for you Mum. This citrus tangerine orange can be worn as a dress coat, the large draping around the neckline is very flattering. This statement open neckline is also fantastic when you want to consider balancing a pear shape, the neckline creates a false impression of an hourglass to the top mirroring what would an hourglass to the bottom in a Pear shape, so you create the perfect hourglass with a coat. This length is midi and with an edgy zip to the side, creating a stunning design line, elongating the shape.
For the mother who wants a pop of shy colour nothing knows subtly like dove grey. This beautiful “Zeila” jacket and dress are tailored in a sublime fabric where the boldness of the floral print is rendered understated by the dove grey shade on a Winter White background. The crop jacket is simple, with a large round neckline with 3 darts mirrored on either side of the neckline creating a snug fit on the neck and allowed the jacket to sit snugly on the upper body when worn over a dress.
The hat is a miniature saucer version with a sheer cream overlay with cream and dove grey spirals creatively linking the hat and the dress.
