No matter how intimate or low-key your big day may be, you should still give the day a structure. Your wedding party, families and vendors will need to know when /where to be at various points of the day. Today we share guidelines on How To Do Timelines For Your Wedding Day.
Hair & Make Up
Allow an hour each for bride’s hair & make up while 30 – 45 minutes will be ample for the bridesmaids. It is an idea to draft up an itinerary to distribute to your girls in advance of the day & while it may change on the day it is a good guideline for everyone. The bride’s make up & hair work well one after the other in fact having hair done last ensures it is freshest and the photographer can get some shots of the her final prep.
The Photographers Arrival
Will be pending package booked with the photographer but good to have them arrive during the bride’s hair and makeup. This also gives the photographer time to capture the details — gown, shoes, jewellery, etc. In addition to the fun in the room, champagne toast and of course emotional interactions between the bride, her bridesmaids and family.
Groom And Groomsmen
Can be fun to have the photographer take some shots of groom & guys final prep & perhaps even a little shot of Irish whiskey at the bar ! The guys should arrive at the ceremony location about 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.
Bride And Bridesmaids Arrival At The Ceremony
The bride & girls should arrive 10 minutes prior to ceremony processional time allowing the photographer a few minutes for photos at the entrance before the bridal party walk down the aisle.
Ideal Wedding Ceremony Length
The ideal length for the ceremony is 30 minutes but a church one can be 45 – 60 minutes.
While not a must if you decide to have a receiving line the length it will take is based on the number of guests in attendance. If there are 100 guests or less, it will take 15 minutes while up to 150 guests it will take 20 minutes. If you’re expecting more than 150 guests you may decide not to have a receiving line due to time it will take!
Time Between Ceremony And Reception
Ideally 1 – 1.5 hours but will be determined on whether the ceremony & reception are in the one location and on the amount of photographs required. Any longer than 1.5 hours guests can become bored not to mention intoxicated !
The length of time for dinner will be determined by the number of courses & of courses guest numbers. An average time for a 5 course meal is 2.5 hours.
Good rule of thumb is five minutes per speech/toast & try keep the total number of speeches to four / five.
