In Celebration of A Special First Anniversary we would like to share a BLOG from Catherine & Tony Hawks wonderful wedding day in Ireland.
They held a three day celebration with friends and family in Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort. Over 100 guests flew in from the USA, including their wedding band, Cold Cave. The couple chose to marry in Ireland as Catherine’s ancestors date back to the Earl of Dunraven. “My husband and I visited Adare for the first time 3 years before the wedding and I was entranced”
It is understandable why they were entranced with the Neo-Gothic building and it’s sophisticated style and architecture. The sprawling 840 acre estate provided the couple and their guests with plenty of Pre and Post wedding activities. They enjoyed a picnic in the woods and a trip to the Cliffs of Moher. Held Afternoon Tea party for Tony’s daughter Kady’s birthday and of course some skate boarding too! Fittingly ‘The Birdman’ and his family also visited the onsite Falconry.
Taking in the beauty of the scenery and grounds, they held an outdoor ceremony which was performed by Dara Molloy – Celtic Celebrant. An outdoor ceremony is a bold choice in Ireland but the couple were only too happy with their decision claiming “We live in North County San Diego, lots of sun and skateparks; however I would take a gloomy Irish morning over sunshine any day.”
“Walking out at the beginning of the ceremony to “Plainsong” by The Cure, and seeing all of my loved ones gathered on this piece of land that I had fallen in love with, was pretty overwhelming. The Minstrel Hall, dinner reception and Cold Cave performing were like something out of a dream. Yes, the whole entire day!”
The Minstrel Hall has been hosting glamorous receptions since the 1800’s and this was no exception. The beautiful centre pieces were created by Lawless Flowers. Adhering to a traditional white wedding dress was not to be for Catherine and her choice of a black gown suited the Gothic hotel.
“I went to a lot of different designers and wedding dress boutiques, but I had tried on this black Dolce & Gabbana dress and that was it, that was the dress. I know some people might think wearing black is “non-traditional,” but for me if there is ever a day you should feel completely yourself, it would be your wedding day. It was perfect.”
We couldn’t agree more.
