When doing your wedding research you are sure to have come across the Groom’s Cake and are now wondering if you require one for your wedding. Today on our BLOG we share All You Need To Know About The Groom’s Cake and how it can add to your wonderful wedding celebrations.
The cake is rooted in history dating back to Victorian Britain and still observed by the Royal Family, Prince William had a rich tea chocolate biscuit cake. It can be a lovely nod to the main man on a day that is otherwise all about the bride.
While originally the cake was served on the wedding day rather than have two cakes many couples now choose to serve it the night before at the rehearsal dinner/welcome party. It can even be served as dessert for the rehearsal dinner or just as sweet offering at the gathering in the pub!
Alternatively if you serve the grooms cake the day before the wedding but there is already a dessert being served with dinner it can be boxed and given as favours for the wedding day. This is exactly how it was served all those years ago!
Traditionally the grooms cake in Britain was a dark fruit cake but it became chocolate when it was adopted by couples in the USA while today anything goes!
The groom’s cake gives couples another chance to offer their guests a sweet indulgence and an opportunity for the bride to personalise the cake for her special man. The groom’s cakes are often highly personalised. While wedding cakes are quite often more serious & classical the grooms cake provides a chance touches of personal expression, fun and can be more informal.
A groom’s cake will often be tailored to the groom’s own interests or passions whether it’s shaped like his favourite convertible or based on his favourite sports team. Some of our recent favourites included the sports team, golf theme, airplane, iphone & chess!
While the Grooms Cake is not a must I am sure you will agree it is a lovely way for the bride to give special acknowledgement to her groom on the occasion of their marriage. xxM
